Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball earned a 59-47 win over St. Joseph's University (BK) in the first round of the Skyline Conference Playoffs at the Danzi Center on Tuesday evening.

Top performers:
  • Three Golden Eagles finished in double-digits, with Junior Lanyah Ford leading the way with a 14-point, 11-rebound performance for a double-double

  • Senior Alyssa Adomaites recorded a double-double of her own, scoring 11 points with 10 rebounds. She added a game-high seven assists

  • Senior Julianna Knice went 4-for-8 from three-point range and scored 12 points with seven rebounds for St. Joseph's-L.I.

  • St. Joseph's-BK was led by Destiny Hurt, who scored a game-high 18 points off the bench with nine rebounds

  • Emma Kiley recorded a double-double for the Bears, as she scored 10 points with a game-high 16 rebounds and three steals

How it happened:
  • The game was tied at three about three minutes into the game, then the Golden Eagles scored five straight points to take an 8-3 lead on a three for Knice

  • The hosts proceeded to go ahead 12-5 on a layup for Senior Catherine Siounis after a steal for Adomaites, then they led by seven again with 53 seconds remaining on a jump shot for Ford (16-9). St. Joseph's-L.I. finished the first quarter up by five (16-11)

  • The two sides exchanged three-point baskets to begin the second quarter, then a pair of baskets for Sophomore Hannah Greene put the Golden Eagles ahead 23-17

  • St. Joseph's-BK responded with a 6-0 run to tie the game at 23 on a basket for Kiley at the 6:03 mark. Hurt scored four of those six points for the Bears

  • St. Joseph's-L.I. scored the next four points to go back up 27-23, then the Bears responded with four points of their own to tie the game again at 27

  • A jump shot for Siounis put the hosts back ahead, then Sophomore Isabella Sierra's jump shot with just seconds left in the quarter extended the lead to four (31-27) to finish the first half of play

  • The Bears scored seven of the first 10 points to begin the third quarter, with Kiley's basket at the 7:57 mark tying the game at 34

  • About 40 seconds later, Kiley gave the visitors a 36-34 lead with a layup

  • Knice put the Golden Eagles back in front with a three-pointer at the 5:52 mark, giving the hosts a 37-36 advantage

  • The Bears went back up 38-37 on a Hurt layup, then Ford's three-point play at the 3:22 mark gave the hosts a 40-38 lead before SJBK tied the game at 40 one minute later on another basket for Hurt

  • Adomaites put SJLI back ahead 42-40 with a jump shot with 2:04 on the clock

  • After a Ford layup, Greene's jump shot at the buzzer gave the hosts a six-point lead going into the final frame (46-40)

  • Knice and Ford each made three-point shots early in the quarter to spark a 13-2 run, with Ford's three extending the Golden Eagles' lead to double-digits (52-42)

  • St. Joseph's-L.I. then scored seven unanswered points to go ahead 59-42 at the 4:26 mark on a layup for Adomaites, which was their largest lead of the night (17 points)

  • SJBK scored the final five points of the game, but St. Joseph's-L.I. held on for a 59-47 victory to advance to the next round of the Skyline Conference Playoffs

Notes:
  • St. Joseph's-L.I. shot 30.7% from the field and 22.7% from three-point range

  • The Bears were limited to a 26.9% shooting percentage and shot just 15.4% from beyond the arc

  • The Golden Eagles went 8-for-13 on free throws (61.5%), while St. Joseph's-BK shot 7-for-12 on free throws (58.3%)

  • SJLI held the advantage in rebounds (54-50) and points in the paint (24-16)

  • The Bears had 18 bench points, all of which were scored by Hurt

  • The Golden Eagles limited the Bears to just seven points in the fourth quarter

  • There were six lead changes and five ties in the contest, but the Bears never led by more than two points
