The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) women's basketball team suffered their fourth Skyline Conference season loss to USMMA, 72-42 on Tuesday evening.

Top Performers

• Senior Alyssa Adomaites led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 12 points, adding one rebound and one steal

• Junior Lanyah Ford provided St. Jospeh's with 10 points, four rebounds, and one assist 

• The Mariners were led by Lauren Hunter, who recorded a double-double of 25 points and 20 rebounds, both of which were game-highs

• Grace Jackson and Kaira Winston also provided scoring for USMMA, contributing 15 and 13 points, respectively 

How it happened 

• The first quarter saw a close game until the Golden Eagles went on a 9-1 run, capped by a layup from Ford, which provided SJLI with a nine-point lead

• The Mariners would respond in the final four minutes of the first quarter going on a 12-2 run, giving USMMA the one-point lead at the end of the first

• St. Joseph's would go on to shoot 63% from the field in the first with Adomaites scoring eight points 

• Merchant Marine Academy would continue its strong performance with a 13-0 run through the first seven minutes of the second quarter 

• Hunter completed the double-double effort at halftime providing the Mariners with 17 points and 13 rebounds 

• St. Joseph's would again struggle in the third quarter being outscored 25-8  with USMMA leading by as much as 32 points with just under two minutes to play

• The Golden Eagles would end the game strong outscoring the Mariners 12-9 in the final frame 

Notes

• St. Joseph's shot 34.8% from the field and 25% from three-point range

• United States Merchant Marine Academy recorded a 42.7% shooting percentage and 12.5% from beyond the arc

• USMMA outscored SJLI in the paint 44-12 

• The Mariners held a 50-26 rebounding edge over the Golden Eagles 

• St. Joseph's bench contributed nine points compared to Merchant Marine's 11 points

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center for their next matchup, preparing to face St. Joseph's Brooklyn in a Skyline Conference matchup on Saturday, February 4 at 3:00 pm.
