Women's Basketball Falls In Regular Season Finale

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball team dropped their final game of the regular season to Manhattanville 68-50, on Saturday evening.

Top performers:
  • Senior Alyssa Adomaites led the Golden Eagles with a team-high 19 points, with three assists and two steals 

  • Freshman Megan Spina added 10 points, five rebounds, and one block 

  • Junior Lanyah Ford had a team-high 11 rebounds, to go along with four assists, one steal, and five points

  • Amanda Orlando led the Valiants with a game-high 22 points, six rebounds, two assists, and four steals 

  • Jamison Agostino and Julianna Kascic both scored in double figures scoring 15 and 10 points, respectively, with Kascic grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds 

How it happened:
  • The first quarter saw Manhattanville jump out to an early six-point lead, with the Golden Eagles responding by going on a 9-0 run capped by a jump shot from Spina 

  • In the final four minutes, both teams would trade baskets as St. Joseph's would end the quarter with a two-point lead  

  • The Valiants would start the second quarter strong as they would propel themselves to a 16-3 run through the first eight minutes of action, and end the first half with a 10-point lead 

  • As SJLI fell behind in the second half, Adomaites would provide a spark scoring eight points in the third quarter allowing the Golden Eagles to go on a 13-0 run tying the game at 42

  • St. Joseph's would take a one-point lead in the first minute of the fourth quarter before Manhattanville would go on an 8-0 run forcing an SJLI timeout 

  • The Valiants would end the game with an 18-7 scoring advantage down the stretch securing the victory

Notes:
  • St. Joseph's shot 30.2% from the field while Manhattanville shot 41.4% 

  • The Golden Eagles went 13-20 (65.0%) on free throws, with the Valiants going 15-21 (71.4%) on free throws 

  • Manhattanville outrebounded SJLI 44-34

  • St. Joseph's dished 12 assists compared to Manhattanville's 13 

  • The Golden Eagles recorded 15 points off turnovers, while the Valiants scored 20 points off turnovers

  • Manhattanville outscored SJLI 34 to 12 with points in the paint 

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, as they host St. Joseph's Brooklyn in the first round of the Skyline Conference playoffs.
