Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball team collected their 10th conference victory of the season, in an 81-40 victory over Old Westbury on Wednesday night.

Top performers:
  • Freshman Megan Spina led the Golden Eagles scoring 18 points, shooting 8-12 from the field, adding two rebounds and two assists 

  • Junior Lanyah Ford added 15 points with a team-high seven rebounds and three assists 

  • Senior Alyssa Adomaites pitched in 15 points and collected six steals, one steal, and one block 

  • Sophomore Felicia Barreiros and sophomore Isabella Sierra provided an offensive spark off the bench scoring nine and eight points, respectively

  • Melinda Harris led Old Westbury in scoring with 16 points adding five rebounds 

  • Ja'nya Flash provided the Panthers with a game-high 12 rebounds and contributed eight points

How it happened:
  • The first quarter saw a tightly contested game with the quarter coming to a close with the Panthers slightly ahead 13-9

  • SJLI started the second quarter strong going on a 15-2 run through the first four minutes capped by a pair of free throws from Catherine Siounis 

  • The Golden Eagles would continue their strong performance with another 11-6 run in the final six minutes of the first half

  • Ford and Spina would combine for 15 of the Golden Eagles' 28 points in the third quarter helping build a 35-point lead entering the final frame

  • The Panthers would score the first five points of the final quarter before St. Joseph's would go on an 18-5 run in the final minutes of the game 

 

Notes:
  • St. Joseph's shot 39.2% from the field while shooting 34.6% from beyond the arc 

  • The Panthers shot 27.8% from the field and shot 33.3% from three-point range 

  • Old Westbury outrebounded St. Joseph's 49-43

  • SJLI outscored Old Westbury 32-20 in the paint

  • The Golden Eagles recorded 17 assists compared to the Panther's seven 

  • SJLI scored 38 points off turnovers 

  • St. Joseph's bench provided 26 points meanwhile Old Westbury had seven bench points
