The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) women's basketball team dropped their first Skyline Conference contest of the season to the United States Merchant Marine Academy 76-64 in the Danzi Center on Tuesday evening.

  • Senior Alyssa Adomaites led the Golden Eagles in scoring with a 22-point performance
  • Senior Catherine Siounis pitched in 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting with Lanyah Ford contributing seven points, eight assists, and eight rebounds
  • The Mariners were led by Lauren Hunter, who had a double-double of 30 points and 25 rebounds, both of which were game-highs
  • Madison Demos added 16 points for USMMA with Grace Jackson getting a 12-point, 15-rebound double-double 
How it happened 
  • The Golden Eagles and the Mariners played a tightly contested first quarter, finding themselves in an 8-8 tie at the five-minute mark
  • From there, USMMA went on a six-point scoring run to take a 14-8 lead over St. Joseph's, but the Golden Eagles would put up seven unanswered points to end the half taking a 15-14 lead into the second quarter
  • St. Joseph's had a tough second quarter, getting outscored 19-9 heading into the final seconds before the half, but with time expiring, sophomore Hailey Clancy drilled a buzzer-beating half-court shot to cut into the Mariner's lead to just six, 33-27
  • The Merchant Marines took their largest lead of the game in the third quarter, going up 47-30 at the 6:05 mark
  • Despite the significant lead, the Golden Eagles chipped away cutting down the deficit to 12 points heading into the fourth quarter
  • At 5:27 in the fourth, sophomore Isabella Sierra drained a three to bring the Golden Eagles to within six, but the Mariners held on for the 76-64 win

  • Adomaites scored her 1,000th career point with a free throw after getting fouled on a made layup with just 30 seconds left in the second quarter. In just 50 games played at St. Joseph's, she becomes the 10th Golden Eagle in program history to reach the milestone
  • As a team, Golden Eagles shot just 30.8% from the field and 15.4% from three while Merchant Marine finished at 42.4% from the field and 31.3% from three
  • St Joseph's won the turnover battle, forcing 20 turnovers while the Mariners just forced seven

The Golden Eagles return to action when they travel to St. Joseph's University-New York (Brkln) for a Skyline Conference matchup on Thursday, January 5th at 7:00 pm.
